Grandmother Tree

I am the one
Who keeps watch over all
A tapestry of wisdom adorns my limbs
I was created from the core of all existence
My song encourages the weary
My heart holds the mysteries of life
My spirit is truth held deep in the earth
My laugh is as boisterous as a summer storm
I’ve quieted the cry of countless children
And cradled the old ones who’ve gone beyond
I’ve sheltered the helpless, nurtured the hopeless
Given refuge to all
My boundaries are none

The earth sustains me

I’ve seen decades of rain
Many more of drought
I am a survivor- a thriver
And though I am old
I stand strong
And though I am old
I stand strong
