An Ordinary Life

“Ordinary life does not interest me. I seek only the high moments. I am in accord with the surrealists, searching for the marvelous. I want to be a writer. ~ Anaïs Nin

I am a writer who cannot write
A singer who cannot sing
I am an artist who cannot paint
A dreamer who no longer dreams
I am a healer who cannot heal
A prophet who cannot see
I am a thinker who has no thoughts
A genius who’s  lost the key
I have lived a thousand lives
I’ve worn a million miles
I’ve danced and loved and lost and grieved
I’ve smiled a billion smiles
But no one knows the real me
The me I choose to hide
The failures I’ve accumulated
The pain that burns inside
I am a dancer who cannot dance
A soarer who has no wings
I am a  wisher who’s run out of stars
A preacher who does not believe
I am sailor who has no north
A poet who cannot rhyme
I am a lover who no longer loves
I am an ordinary life
