Empty Reflection

Sitting, watching
as children carefully scrawl
on butcher paper
hastily taped to the window

Rainbow colored words
thoughtfully expressed
love, tears, hopes and good byes

for the one –
their very special one
whose empty, silent desk
is a stark reflection
in the window
behind me
